ABSTRACT

Related factors with empowerment among some students who experienced clinical practice in the department of emergency medical service

Objectives: This study was to investigated the related factors with empowerment among some students in the department of emergency medical service.

Methods: Total 208 students in the department of emergency medical service who experienced clinical practice of 5 university in G and J area were selected by convenience sampling methods. General characteristics, major-related characteristics, satisfaction of clinical practice and empowerment were collected by self-reported questionnaires. The differences of empowerment by general characteristics and major-related characteristics were tested using t-test and ANOVA. And the association between satisfaction of clinical practice end empowerment was tested using correlation coefficients. Finally, multiple linear regression analysis was performed to investigate the associated factors with empowerment after controlling covariates.

Results: Overall satisfaction of clinical practice and empowerment level were 109.42±14.64 and 99.46±12.85, respectively. In simple analysis, empowerment level was associated with general characteristics, major-related characteristics, characteristics of clinical practice and satisfaction of clinical practice. Empowerment level was significantly higher in older subjects (β=5.902, p=0.013), subjects with good (β=8.813, p=0.002) or fair (β=5.163, p=0.007) subjective health status and good subjective school record (β= 5.387, p=0.017) in multiple linear regression analysis. And the satisfaction of environment of clinical practice was positively associated with empowerment (β= 4.510, p=0.035).

Conclusions: The empowerment was associated with major-related factors and satisfaction of clinical practice. Increasing satisfaction to clinical practice might be positively influence the empowerment for students in the department of emergency medical service.
