Up until now, I have read and experienced a great deal on the practical techniques of music, but I have been indifferent to the history and epochal background of it. The form of Western music that we learn now, and the differences and traits of the changing forms over time, are dealt with.
Most people, even music lovers find difficulty in easily approaching music before classical music. The influential relation of the arts is veiled even more. Even when the relations are clear, they are not normally dealt with. Even I personally thought this way. When studying a song, baroque music seemed difficult to study, and unattractive. However, the more I studied music documents, and the more I achieved knowledge on how music came to be, and how it changed, and as I studied prominent composers one by one, an ambition for the study of the flow of music history burgeoned inside me. The epochal background of Western music was examined, and also, the flow of music, starting from ancient music to medieval music, renaissance music, baroque music, classical music, romantic music, to 20th century music.
How the periodical politics, society, and cultural environment influenced music, and which genres were developed in this process, were researched.
The Western music history in eight high school textbooks were classified, and the similarities and differences were examined.
