영어교과서 의사소통중심 문법지도 English Textbook Teaching English Grammar
This study aims to clarify the role of grammar in the aspect of communication and to suggest the effective lesson plan not only to teach the language forms but also to develop learner's communitive competence. For the purpose of study, (1) a survey was conducted to understand student's attitude and cognition toward English grammar. (2) A research on sections dealing with language forms in middle school English textbooks was carried out.
The results were as follows: (1) Whereas more than 60 percent of students thoght grammar important in learning English, they didn't consider learning grammar to be interesting, rather to be boring. (2) The reason they thought like that was the way of learning grammar in class. Most English classes are made up of explanations led by teachers. (3) Grammar in middle school English textbooks of the 7th Curriculum was presented through uncontextualized situations such as repetition drills and a few filling gap activities. These make the students hard to attract their attract their interest and attention. (4) Language forms presented in the textbooks were neither distributed well nor repeated enough to internalize their rules.
The findings of this study lead to the following recommendations.
First, various ways such as games and sings should be joined in the class to make learners feel grammar interesting.
Second, English textbooks should give learners meaningful opportunities to use grammar in accordance with the object that language forms should be internalized inductively.
Third, language forms should be closely connected to the next level and repeated enough for learners to recognize the forms.
Finally, teachers and textbook publishers should keep making more effort to make the class meaningful context in learning grammar.
