Abstract
This study is aimed to seek out effective relative methods between the vocational education at special school for students with hearing impairment and getting the social work to the appropriate operation type of the constitution of the cooperative system, problems and improvement solutions, the current operation of the vocational education of special school for students with hearing impairment, by finding out the methods of the cooperative system with the vocational education at special school for students with hearing impairment.
For this study, I performed a survey by mailing out questionnaires aimed at teachers who teach vocational curricula in 16 special high schools of 23 special schools for students with hearing impairment nationwide. As for the processing of collected data, the verification on the frequency of multiple questions was conducted, and the contents of answer for open-type descriptive question were described in order of frequency.
The results based on the review of research result and precedent study are as follows.
First, as for the organization and current operation of vocational education at special school for students with hearing impairment, the total 23 vocational curricula were opened and operated in 16 special schools for student with hearing impairment, and most schools did not consider the features of community or realizability in appointing curricula under the pretext of the lack of special teachers for vocational curricula or insufficient related facilities and instruments. Accordingly, the problem of excessive workload of teachers should be solved when teachers take charge of vocational education courses as well as their own course, as well as increasing special teachers qualified to have special (vocational) teacher certificate or securing budgets.
Second, in curricula focused on the education selection of high school, it needs to develop curricula irrelevant to the preparatory function for getting the social work in the basic curricular as a way of improving problems in association with vocational education and employment. The correlation between current vocational education and employment which is very low, can be overcome by placing special teacher for vocational education or teachers exclusively for field education, offering an education via specialized technology institutes, and introducing vocational curricula that are beneficial to getting a job.
Third, as for the constitution of a collaborative system between a special school for students with hearing impairment and a special vocational institute that I proposed in this study, a special education institute performs a special technology education for maintaining school functions and solving problems of the lack of experts, facility, and devices. Also, in order to solve the problem of connecting the issue of transfer and offering an education, it was deemed appropriate to educate students in a specialized technology institute for a designated full-day. The constitution of a collaborative system with a special vocational institute will help students acquire special and practical technology and get the social work by increasing the relation with employment. However, the problem of teacher's excessive workload, the disapproval of those curricula, and insufficient fund support needs to be solved for constituting the system.
Based on the results gained from this study, for improving and developing the efficient relative methods between the vocational education at special school for students with hearing impairment and getting the social work, it needs to cultivate teachers for vocational education, introduce practical curricula beneficial to employment, secure budgets for constituting a collaborative system with a specialized vocational institute, and develop vocational curricula for students with plural or severe impairments. In addition, it needs to perform follow-up study for grasping the efficient relative methods between the vocational education at special school for students with hearing impairment and getting the social work, by adding students with hearing impairment who graduated from the special school and teachers for special institute for the disabled as well as teachers at special high school for students with hearing impairment.
