The purpose of this study is to devise some effective methods of teaching English vocabulary via multimedia in accord with the learning theory of constructivism. The followings accordingly are verified and stressed in this study.
In the very beginning of their learning, learners of a language should learn its words before proceeding to its larger units. All the users of languages have been and will be expanding their vocabulary all the way during their lives. Therefore, expanding vocabulary by learning, exercising, repeating, and memorizing new and old words should be one of the most important and strenuous activities in the language classroom.
One of the best ways to learn English vocabulary as well as its larger linguistic units is to employ the internet multimedia in accord with the era of information technology. In the sense of cyberculture, the internet, English, and multimedia have been merged into one cyberspace, the internet. The internet itself is a sea of multimedia and over 80 percent of the information on the internet is in English. With the help of multimedia, learning English vocabulary can be like playing?all fun and leisure.
Several methods and techniques devised in this study apply multimedia and are going to support English teachers to lead their vocabulary classes more effectively. Learners of English as well as their teachers should be familiarized with multimedia. They should also continue to try finding out further effective ways of extending their vocabulary via multimedia.
