영어 교수·학습을 위한 인터넷 채팅의 활용 방안에 관한 연구

The two most important media in the Information Age are Internet in information technology and English in language. It is safe to say that they are merged into one communicative tool on the very Internet. According to the social and educational needs in this Information Age, the prime purpose of English teaching and learning (ETL) has been to cultivate the capability to communicate in English fluently.
This case study aims to show that Internet with English has a great deal of potential in accomplishing the purpose of coexistence in the Information Age through strengthening communicative competence in ETL. To this end, various effective dimensions for ETL via Internet were studied and surveys of students' attitudes and perceptions on ETL using the useful Internet sites and resources were carried out.
The potentials of ETL via Internet are as follows. First, several effective methods for ETL via Internet can be available. Second, learning materials in multimedia on Internet motivate learners to study and support their learning styles. Third, comprehensive and objective cross-cultural awareness for improving communicative competence can be gained. Fourth, English communicative competence can be increased. These results signal to English teachers and language education professionals that the easily accessible and varied resources on Internet have enormous potentials for improving English communicative competence in ETL.
For implementing ETL via Internet, effective ETL methods via Internet and evaluation methods are essential to make students assure that retrieving and exploring information on Internet are valuable learning methods for the purpose of coexistence in the Information Age. The English teacher play the most important role in using Internet and chat tools in English class
