Freud, who analysed and interpreted human minds scientifically for the first time, considers childhood as the most important because he thinks that people's behaviors and personality are decided by unconsciousness accumulated during childhood. Based on the principle, it is assured that proper understanding of childhood is very important. Painting of children reflects strong representation of unconsciousness inherent at one time in childhood, rather than simple representation of preferred things or tastes.
In this study on children's painting, colors in children's painting are crucial in a study on personality, and internal association between colors and emotion is presented as universal symbols to represent a feeling in painting. Therefore, it is suggested that interest in life they have, desires, emotions and hidden personality are reflected in painting reproduced by children.
Because of recently increased social problems in respect to children, interest in art therapy is rapidly increasing, followed by psychological approach of their painting. Parents respond sensitively to colors and forms used in their children's painting, and ask many questions in respect to psychology such as whether their children have problems or there are some problems in forms and contents in their painting.
Thus, recent art education has focused on psychological therapy with increasing interest in emotion and psychology of children. As art activities familiar to children do not give burden or invoke resistance, it helps open their minds by identifying family problems and psychological conflicts in them. Therefore, it is suggested that art education should be oriented for prevention and counselling by identifying problems of children having psychological problems as well as artistic skills.
