- Abstract
- The purpose of this paper is to examine the effects of Wooden Pillow Yoga and general yoga(Hatha Yoga) program on stress reduction. The research focuses on the changes in physical symptoms of stress, fatigue and pain.
Yoga beginners who had practiced in yoga for less than 2 months participated in the experiment as subjects. One group practiced Wooden Pillow Yoga twice a week for 12 weeks 60 minutes per session, while the other group practiced general yoga under the same condition. From the subjects in both groups, physical symptoms of stress, subjective fatigue symptoms and subjective pain were measured before and after the programs.
According to findings of this study, the wooden pillow yoga group and the general yoga group both reported reduction of physical symptoms of stress and fatigue. However, the subjects that practiced Wooden Pillow Yoga program showed significant improvement in factors including gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, pain and insomnia physical stress symptoms compared to those participated in the regarding general yoga program. Also, the symptoms of fatigue were relieved in much greater level for the wooden pillow yoga subjects compared to general yoga subjects. Finally, the wooden pillow yoga group showed significant reduction of pain in neck, shoulder and back. On the contrary, the general yoga group showed little change in pain.
In conclusion, the results of this study demonstrated that the wooden pillow yoga program is more effective for yoga beginners in reducing stress, fatigue and pain than the general yoga program.
