This study provided massage therapy from June 1, 2010 to August 31, 2010 for eight weeks to analyse the effect of Soru massage therapy on pain on the head and neck. Based on the results, Soru massage therapy showed positive results for pain on the head and neck of elderly persons, which indicates that it can improve their health and quality of living. Therefore, this study is an arbitrary alternative therapy which can be applied for the elderly who have pain on the head and neck caused by muscular tension. The subjects of the study were a total of 46 seniors aged over 65 (30 for test group and 16 for control group). The therapy was given twice a week for eight weeks and a total of 16 sessions for 30 minutes.
The results are summarized as follows:
1) The pain average on the head and neck of the male subjects in the test group was 2.89 before the therapy and 3.89 after the therapy, which was statistically significant (p<0.05). The average pain grade of the female subjects was 2.33 before the therapy and 3.90 after the therapy, which was statistically significant (p<0.001).
2) For the test group who had a random test, the average of pain on the head and neck of the subjects was 2.50 before the therapy and 3.90 after the therapy, which was statistically significant (p<0.001).
