Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine effects of bicycle ergometer exercise on middle cerebral artery blood flow velocity and blood gas saturation in basketball player. Although cerebral autoregulation appears well maintained during mild to moderate intensity dynamic exercise in young subjects, it is presently unclear how elite athletes influences the regulation of cerebral blood flow during physical activity. Therefore, to address this question, middle cerebral artery blood velocity (MCAV), mean arterial pressure (MAP), and the partial pressure of arterial carbon dioxide (PaCO2) were assessed at rest and post exercise. Subjects were consisted of college basketball athletes (n=12) as a experimental group and non-athletic college students (n=12) as a control group. The statistical techniques for data analysis were two-way ANOVA to determine the difference among groups. The 5 % levels of significance were used as the critical level for acceptance of hypotheses for the study. The obtained results as follows: 1. Bicycle ergometer exercise significantly increased middle cerebral artery blood velocity in both control and experimental groups. The post hoc, MCAV and SCAV(systolic pressure cerebral artery blood velocity) of post-exercise and recovery phase 30minute in athletes group showed a significantly lower than control group. Also, DCAV(diastolic pressure cerebral artery blood velocity) of post-exercise in athletes group showed a significantly lower than control group. 2. The reaction of pO2 and pCO2 were significant differences between control group and athletes group. The post hoc, pO2 and pCO2 in pre-exercise, post-exercise and recovery phase 30minute was no significant differences.
In conclusion, the present data provide a new evidence that bicycle ergometer exercise decreased middle cerebral artery blood flow velocity and blood gas saturation in basketball player.
