Abstract
The immunomodulatory effect of Allium victorialis var. platyphyllum based on the production of inflammatory cytokines and the activation of macrophages was evaluated. The present study was designed to suggest the effects of hot water extract from Allium victorialis var. platyphyllum on the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines in RAW 264.7 cell lines. We evaluated on lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced release of interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-6 by peritoneal macrophages RAW 264.7 cell lines. The results showed that the water extract from Allium victorialis var. platyphyllum induced the generation of IL-1β and IL-6 on LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cell lines in a concentration-dependent manner. In addition, the dose of 1.0 and 5.0 mg/ml of hot water extracts showed a significant cytotoxicity, whereas the dose of 0.0057-0.57 mg/ml induced the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β and IL-6.
