With rapid urbanization and industrialization of current society, we are getting distant from nature. And modern people are closely involved with emotional anxiety, nervousness and depression due to stress. Therefore, we have to try to lessen such symptoms.
Flowers and plants help us to feel comfortable and recognize mysteries and beauty of nature. Floral art design using natural materials has educational effects as follows: to create pleasant and cozy interior design and encourage us to have observation, concentration and abstraction through functional and creative activities and aesthetic senses through visual beauty.
Therefore, this study aims to examine various functions and roles of floral art design and the effect of floral art design on emotion by applying floral art design education programs according to ages or intellectual characteristics of subjects. To find ways to expand the usages of flower design, we applied education programs for intellectual disabilities, old people and elementary school students of Grade 5.
This study provided floral art design programs for a total of 10 sessions and an hour a session and the results are presented as follows:

First, intellectual disabilities recovered their confidence and had more creative power after the program. Their sociality and personal relations were improved as they gave their floral art to others as presents.

Second, the old people had less depression and more satisfaction in their life after the program.

Third, children had more self-esteem and emotional intelligence and when they completed their flower art, they had more confidence and concentration.

Based on the results above, it was found that floral art design programs using natural materials had positive effects on all the intellectual disabilities, old people and children. However, most of the previous floral design education programs were uniform and similar. Therefore, floral art design programs should be organized in consideration of characteristics and possible activities of subjects.
