Abstract
This study aims at identifying how group art therapy influences social improvement of 7 institutionalized children.
The art therapy program used in this study consists of a total of 16 sessions for 60 minutes a week, which is categorized into early period, middle period and late period. This program is organized as follows: It asks children to express their feeling after the artistic activities according to themes and other members in the group to give feedback, This study uses social improvement test and KSD(Kinetic School Drawing), and records observatory results with 100% of reliability. The data collected are qualitatively analysed before and after the activities with a use of measuring instruments to find changes in each session.
As a result, it is found that the group art therapy has positive effect on social improvement of the 7 subjects. Based on the results, this study concludes that the group art therapy influences social improvement of the institutionalized children and helps their ethics, cooperation, independence, and sociality to be improved.
