Abstract
This study has analyzed the following hypothesis. It is the rearing manner of parents that influences the personality and the school-related adjustment of their children. This study utilizes a sampling of high school students.
The SPSS WIN version 12.0 program has been used for data analysis and has carried out four methods. Frequency and Factor Analysis have been used for data validity. Correlation Analysis examines the correlation between the data of each variable. Multi-regression Analysis testifies to the relationship between an independent and a dependent variable.
The results of the study are as follows:
First and foremost, the testing result between the rearing manner of parents and the personality of their children has proved the following five points:
The personality variable of "Self-respect" is significant specifically to the "Father of mildness type" of parents' rearing variables(P<0.05).
The personality variable of "Sociality and Altruism" is significant specifically to the "Mother of mildness type" of parents' rearing variables(P<0.05).
The personality variable of "Sincerity" is significant specifically to the "Mother of mildness, permission, and liberalism type" of parents' rearing variables(P<0.05).
The personality variable of "Safety" is significant specifically to the "Father of mildness" and "Mother of mildness, permission, and liberalism type" of parents' rearing variables(P<0.05).
An examination of these findings has concluded that mothers should treat their children with affection and flexibility as to assist their children in maintaining good relationships with the people around them, as well as in encouraging their social standards.
Additionally, the mother's role is more important than the father's role in encouraging their children to achieve the goals which they set with sincerity and responsibility. Parents should allow their children to express emotion while finding a balance in limiting their children. Furthermore, they should have frequent contact with their children and engage them in conversation.
Secondly, the testing result between the rearing manner of parents and the school-related adjustment of their children has proved the following three points:
The school-related adjustment variable of "School-teacher and School-standard adjustment" is significant specifically to the "Mother of mildness type" of parents' rearing variables(P<0.05).
The school-related adjustment variable of "School-friend adjustment" is not significant to any of the parents' rearing variables(P>0.05).
The school-related adjustment variable of "School-class adjustment" is significant specifically to the "Father of permission type" and "Mother of permission and liberalism type" of parents' rearing variables(P<0.05).
In sum, there is a close dependent relationship between the rearing manner of parents and the personality and school-related adjustment of their children.
In child rearing, it is beneficial to have the "permission type" rather than the "mildness type," as it promotes positive personality and school-related adjustment in their children. Furthermore, the "despotism type" reflects a more negative influence than the "permission and liberalism type." This study recognizes the importance of parents' making an active cooperative effort in child rearing decisions and actions.
