Abstract: This paper proposes a new type of ultraviolet (UV) sensor coated with Azobenzene polymer material, a functional polymer that has recently been gaining interest in strain gauge equipment. Azovenzene polymers react reversively to ultraviolet rays, transforming the internal structure of the material. It is a technology that measures the change in strain induced by the ultraviolet light to the Azobenzene polymer using an electric strain gauge and detects ultraviolet rays from it. In particular, sensors are designed to determine the direction in which UV rays are introduced.</description>

Abstract: Mallotus japonicus, belonging to Euphorbiaceae, has been known to possess various physiological activities such as anti-bacterial, anti-virus, and anti-inflammatory effects. This study was designed to investigate the anti-oxidative activity and anti-tumor effect of the Mallotus japonicus bark extracts with water and ethanol. The amount of total polyphenolic compounds was measured using gallic acid as a standard material. The ethanol extract showed higher contents (143.6±1.57 mg GAE/g) than the water extract (120.4±6.11 mg GAE/g). Based on this result, a modified DPPH assay was conducted for the free radical scavenging activities of water and ethanol extracts. The ethanol extract revealed 80% free radical scavenging activity, compared with the 60% activity of water extract. To identify the qualitative and quantitative analyses of ethanol extract, LC/MS/MS method was applied to 15 standard materials. The result showed the highest contents of bergenin and the existence of other materials except resveratrol and oxyresveratrol. Cytotoxicity test was performed with MTT assay. Whereas the ethanol extract showed no cytotoxicity to 293T of a normal cell, the effects of ethanol extract on Fadu cell (head and neck carcinoma cells) appeared to be toxic in a 125-250 μg/mL range of concentrations. These results imply the value of developing anti-oxidant and anti-tumor agents using the ethanol extract of Mallotus japonicus bark.</description>

Abstract: Bamboo is a plant belonging to the native Gramineae and has long been popular in Korea and other countries. Among the different types of bamboo is Phyllostachys bambusoides, which is useful for a variety of purposes as it possesses useful properties and has a wide range of beneficial uses such as a pulpwood, timbering, and medicinal usages. The bamboo stem contains cellulose and lignin and contains various polyphenol compounds. It has also been reported that bamboo stems have antioxidant and UV-protective activities, especially in the cosmetic application of bamboo stems. However, no research has been conducted on the scalp cosmetics of the Phyllostachys bambusoides. In this study, antioxidant activity and polyphenol content were investigated to inquire the possibility of Phyllostachys bambusoides being a cosmetic material. Total polyphenol content concentration was calculated to be 500 μg/mL, and antioxidant assays (DPPH, ABTS) were performed resulting in the range of 50-900 μg/mL (IC50). All five fractions showed no cytotoxicity up to the concentration of 100 μg/mL by MTT assay. Therefore, in this study, the antibacterial, antioxidant, and polyphenol contents of domestic bamboo royal extract were analyzed to investigate its potential as a cosmetic material for improving scalp.</description>

Abstract: An efficient location management plays an important role in mobile communication networks. In this study, a direction-based location registration (DIR) scheme and its modified scheme called a unidirection-based location registration (uniDIR), both of which adopt a line paging to reduce paging costs, are considered. The problems of the previous performance analysis method for DIR and uniDIR are pointed out, and a new accurate analysis model to properly analyze the correct performance is proposed. Using the new analysis method, the exact performance of DIR and uniDIR is obtained, and the performance comparison results of the two schemes are presented. According to the results of performance analyses in various environments, this study confirms that DIR has better performance than uniDIR in most cases despite the reduction in paging cost.</description>
