    <summary type="text">Title: Awareness and assessment of the Material Safety Data Sheet by dental technicians in Jeju province

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the furnishing rate and dental technicians’ comprehension level on Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) in Jeju province. On-line and off-line questionnaires filled out by 102 dental technicians were acquired and analyzed by frequency analysis, chi-squared test, and one-way ANOVA by SPSS 20.0. On average, respondents rated 3.21±0.87 on a Likert 5-point scale regarding familiarity with hazardous effects of chemicals, 2.54±1.09 to awareness of MSDS, and 2.05±1.09 to familiarity with the contents of MSDS. Regarding availability of MSDS or similar information at workplace, 18.6% responded MSDS were furnished, 5.9% responded similar information sheets were provided, 29.4% responded MSDS or similar information sheets were not furnished, and 46.1% responded that they were not sure. Total of 24.5% responded positive to availability of MSDS or similar information, which was higher than result from a similar study from 2010 but lower than that of the 2016 study. Gender difference in awareness and comprehension level of MSDS were noted. No statistically significant differences were noted between graduates of Jeju and of other regions regarding awareness and comprehension of MSDS. Position at work rather than length of employment affected level of awareness and comprehension of MSDS. Efforts to rouse dental technicians’ interest in chemical safety may enhance workplace health and safety, and there is room for improvement in MSDS provision and education in dental labs of Jeju.</summary>

    <title>Anatomical assessment of the palatal mucosa for connective tissue grafts</title>

    <summary type="text">Title: Anatomical assessment of the palatal mucosa for connective tissue grafts

Abstract: The palatal mucosa and gingiva are histologically similar, hence used as an autologous donor site for connective tissue grafts in periodontal surgery. Therefore, the aims of this study were to investigate the palatal mucosa to obtain a histological quantitative data, and to compare the topographic relationship of the greater palatal artery (GPA) with the greater palatine nerve (GPN). The 32 hemimaxillae in Korean were prepared using conventional methods of tissue processing and stained with hematoxylin-eosin. The obtained specimens were measured for the presence of the areas of entire palatal mucosa, submucosa and glandular tissue, the length from the alveolar crest to the GPA and the GPN, and the depth from the mucosal surface to each artery and nerve. The mean area of the entire palatal mucosa was 59.7, 53.2, 50.6, 57.6, and 73.2 mm2 and that of the submucosa was 36.6, 35.3, 33.3, 41.8, and 58.0 mm2 according to the tooth position from the canine, respectively. The glandular tissues were found in all the molars and the mean area was 15.1 (first molar) and 30.3 (second molar) mm2, respectively . The GPA with an average of 10.1 mm was located on the lateral side than the GPN with an average of 10.8 mm, but there was no statistically significant difference. Whereas, the depth of the GPA was 4.3 mm, which was statistical significantly deeper than that of the GPN (3.7 mm under the mucosal surface). These anatomical results provided the quantitative data on the palatal mucosa as an autologous donor site for connective tissue grafts.</summary>

Abstract: Implant secondary surgery is an operation that exposes the implant fixture into the oral cavity. Depending on the surgical procedure, keratinized gingiva surrounding the implant may be affected, that may affect long-term prognosis of the implant. The purpose of this case report is to introduce a minimally invasive 2nd stage surgery and to evaluate its clinical features and effect on preservation of keratinized gingiva. Minimally invasive 2nd stage surgery was performed in three patients that had completed first stage implant surgery. The width of keratinized gingiva was measured immediately after surgery and after completion of prosthesis. As a result, the width of keratinized gingiva was preserved, patient's discomfort was reduced, and the operation duration was shortened.</summary>

    <summary type="text">Title: Peripheral odontogenic fibroma : A rare benign gingival tumor and compared with pyogenic granuloma

Abstract: Peripheral odontogenic fibroma (POF, WHO-type) is a relatively rare benign tumor which shows sessile, firm, and exophytic gingival enlargement. Microscopically, a POF is a gingival lesion consisting of scattered and multiple islands of odontogenic epithelial strands and keratinized stratified squamous epithelium with long and thin rete pegs underlying fibrocellular connective tissue. A mature lesion of POF is clinically difficult to distinguish from pyogenic granuloma, due to their similar shapes and colors, and the fact that pyogenic granuloma is a frequently-occurring disease. Therefore, we report a case of POF in a 37-year-old female and compare it with pyogenic granuloma.</summary>
