Abstract
Background : Recently there are increasing number of people participate in sports activities. The forms of sports are various and they are interesting and very dynamic and accordingly, the rate of sports injuries are increasing as well. In this light, this paper has been conducted to investigate the extent of acute damage and its forms by examining the current state of patients with sports injuries.

Method : This research has been conducted between January of 2008 and December of 2010 in Chosun University hospital through retrospective review on the medical record of patients with sports-related injuries. Based on the analysis, the patients' gender, ages, sorts of sports, damaged part, type, and the time in which such events occurred.

Result: The total number of patients with sports injuries visited the emergicenter was 887 in total. The number of male patients accounts for 726 (81.85%), which is far more than the number of female patients which accounts for 161 (18.15%).
The largest number of such events, 312(35.17%), have occurred between April and June and regarding time, the largest number of events, which account for 342(38.55%), have occurred between 16 and 19. Most injuries have mainly occurred at play ground, which accounts for 583(65.72%) and the largest number of patients, which is 290 (32.69%) were injured by soccer and the second largest number of patients, which is 99 (11.16%) were injured by baseball.
More than half of the patients, which accounts for 419 (47.23%), had injuries on their face, second and common parts, in which injuries occurred, were upper and lower bodies of which figures account for 146 (16.45%) and 193 (21.75%) respectively.
The majority of patients did not need to have operation but 113 of them (12.73%) needed to do so. Further, more than 80% of them did not need to be hospitalized or discharged for observation but 170 of them needed to be hospitalized. 68 patients (7.67%), which is the largest figure, were hospitalized between 8 ~14 days.

Conclusion : Sports injuries mostly occurred in young male patients. Some of such events can be treated within short times but its takes long time for stabilization and treatment for symptoms including sprain, dislocation and desmorrhexis. This can interrupt participating in sports activities for a long a long time and lower quality of life. Hence there needs to be proper preventative measures and scientific treatment methods.
