Abstract
ISO 5660 cone calorimeter experiments were simulated using Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) in the present study. In cone calorimeter experiments, PMMA (Poly methyl methacrylate) which does not generate char during pyrolysis process was used as a solid fuel. The thermal properties of PMMA reported in literature was set as an input variable of FDS. The experimentally measured mass loss rate and heat release rate in the ISO 5660 cone calorimeter experiments were then compared with those numerically calculated from the FDS simulation. Comparisons made between cone calorimeter experiments and FDS simulations clearly highlight an importance of thermal properties of PMMA measured as a function of temperature as input variables.
