Abstract
A study on antibacterial and antioxidant activity of contact lens made of natural functional substances Ji-Hoon Park Advisor : Prof. Ho-Jung Kim, Ph.D. Department of Chemistry Graduate School of Chosun University Since the vision is the tissue that reacts the most to external stimulation, eye care is very important. however, the incidence of ophthalmic diseases is increasing due to the increase in the use of smartphones and contact lenses. among them conjunctivitis and eye damage related to contact lenses show a high incidence of high ranks every year. To solve these ophthalmic diseases, natural functional substances Mangostin and Dopamine were applied to contact lenses to study the antibacterial and antioxidant functionality of contact lenses. To evaluate the performance of contact lensese, experiments were conducted on light transmittance, water content, oxygen permeability, antibacterial properties, antioxidant properties. water content, oxygen permeability and visible light transmittance did not show significant differences between the control group and the natural functional substances. in the case of UV transmittance, UV-A was 89.33, 10.00 and 18.67% in the order of control, Mangostin and Dopamine. UV-B was 90.00, 1.00 and 6.67%. As a result of the antibacterial test, Magostin showed antibacterial activity of 90.6 and 87.5% in the order of SDA and TSA, and Dopamine showed antibacterial activity of 96.5 and 86.6%. the antioxidant test showed that the antioxidant rate of anatural functional substances was excellent, with 2.01, 64.83 and 41.21% in the order of control, Mangostin and Dopamine. Therefore, natural functional materials are considered suitable for developing functional contact lenses by showing excellent antibacterial and antioxidant properties in contact lenses and maintaining the performance of contact lenses.
