혼합매체 판화의 신체표현에 나타난 여성성 연구

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore femininity in artworks representing female figure using mixed media and printmaking techniques based on the concept of 'Body expression in art'. In China, I pursued traditional academy printmaking, which prioritizes technique over content. Employing functional techniques, I focused on achieving reproducibility in my printmaking works. Studying in South Korea led me to adopt a new approach. By incorporating various mixed media elements, I emphasized content over technique in my printmaking techniques. This departure from convention yielded fresh results, enriching my artistic practice and expanding its boundaries. China and South Korea have distinct social systems, and these distinctions affected how women’s boies are depicted in art. In South Korea, there is more open and accepting female sexuality-themed artwork. Acknowledging these socio-cultural variances, my works contain the female body and the contemporary discourse of femininity. The representation of women's bodies is a revolution in the consciousness of women's sexual self-awareness in modern society. This thesis examines how mixed media printmaking has evolved from the traditional to the new through early collagraphic expressions, rubbing-printing, and the borrowing of painting techniques. It also describes the significant development of the printmaking medium through the unique expressive qualities of mixed media in today's printmaking, including collagraphy, rubbing-printing, and monotype. In addition, it analyses the body as a subject in plastic arts. I examine works on the theme of femininity in the categories of representation of the body in two-dimensional art, metaphorical representation of the body in sculpture, performance art, and printmaking since the 20th century. I also analyze themes that I have been focused on, such as the ambiguous body and the fragmented body, through the working methods of various artists. Furthermore, I look at the works of leading artists with different perceptions of women. Cindy Sherman, who offers a critical view of gender, Kathe Kollwitz, who expresses the power of motherhood, Marlene Dumas, who deals with women's sexuality and body art, and Kiki Smith, who uses mixed media printmaking as a medium to represent the female body. In order to create a diverse representation of the female body, I experimented with mixed media and printmaking techniques, outside of the constraints of traditional printmaking techniques. The combination of paper plates and spray paint creates a special effect of texture similar to the homogeneity of the copperplate technique and it creates my own way of working. In conclusion, I explore the working method of mixed media printmaking with the theme of 'Femininity in body expression'. Due to the lack of literature and research on body representation in mixed media printmaking, the study of the transition process from traditional printmaking techniques to mixed media is a significant attempt. I systematically organize the works of women artists who express femininity and analyze the ways and types of body representation in sculpture and printmaking. I use mixed media printmaking as a way of representing the female body. My work explores the narrativity of the female body by presenting it as a scene in a black-and-white movie, and pursues sensuality by intuitively expressing the curves and volumes of the female body created by nature. I also seek to convey the inherent value of female consciousness through the fragmentation of the body.|본 연구의 목적은 ‘신체표현 예술’이라는 개념을 바탕으로 혼합매체와 판화 기법을 사용하여 여성을 표현하는 작품에 나타나는 여성성을 탐구하는 것이다. 중국에서 본 연구자는 ‘내용보다 기법’을 중시하는 전통 아카데미 판화를 통해 작품에서 판화의 복제 가능성에 대한 기능적인 기법을 활용하였다. 한국 유학 후에는 ‘기법보다 내용’을 중시하는 다양한 혼합매체를 판화기법에 활용하여 새로운 결과물을 만들어 냈다. 중국과 한국의 사회체제는 다르며, 이러한 차이는 예술에서 여성의 신체 예술에 대한 개방성과 포용성에도 영향을 미쳤다. 한국의 사회 분위기는 여성의 성을 주제로 한 작품을 비교적 개방적으로 포용한다. 이러한 사회문화적 차이를 인지한 연구자의 판화는 여성의 신체와 여성성의 시대적 담론을 동시에 담고 있다. 여성의 신체표현은 현대 사회에서 여성의 성적 자기 인식에 대한 의식의 혁명이다. 본 논문은 혼합매체 판화가 초기의 콜라주와 같은 모습에서 탁본형식의 직접인쇄로, 그리고 회화 기법의 차용을 통해 전통에서 새로움으로 어떻게 진화했는지 살펴본다. 또한 콜라그래피, 탁본형식의 직접인쇄, 모노타입 등 오늘날 판화에서 혼합매체가 갖는 독특한 표현적 특성을 통해 판화 매체의 획기적인 발전을 서술한다. 더 나아가 신체를 주제로 한 조형예술을 분석한다. 20세기 이후 평면적 신체표현, 조각의 은유적 신체표현, 행위예술, 판화의 범주에서 여성성을 주제로 한 작품들을 살펴본다. 또한 연구자가 주목해 온 주제인 모호한 신체, 파편화된 신체 등을 여러 예술가의 작업 방법을 통해 분석한다. 더 나아가 여성에 대한 다양한 인식을 가진 선행 작가의 작품을 고찰한다. 젠더에 대한 비판적 시각을 제시한 신디 셔먼, 모성의 힘을 표현한 케테 콜비츠, 여성의 성 의식과 신체 예술을 다룬 마를렌 뒤마, 여성의 몸을 표현하는 수단으로 혼합매체 판화를 사용한 키키 스미스 등을 중심으로 살펴본다. 본 연구자는 여성의 신체를 복합적으로 표현하기 위해 기존의 판화기법의 제약에서 벗어나 혼합매체와 판화기법을 실험적으로 교차하여 사용하였다. 종이판과 스프레이 페인트의 조합은 동판화 기법의 균질성과 유사한 질감의 특수 효과를 만들어 내며 연구자만의 작업 방식을 만들어 낸다. 결론적으로, 연구자는 ‘신체표현에 나타난 여성성’을 주제로 혼합매체 판화기법을 이용한 작업 방식을 탐구한다. 혼합매체 판화의 신체표현에 대한 문헌 자료와 연구가 부족한 상황에서 전통 판화기법에서 혼합매체로의 전환 과정 연구는 획기적인 시도라고 할 수 있다. 본 연구자는 여성성을 다룬 여성 작가들의 작품을 체계적으로 정리하여, 조형예술과 판화에 나타난 신체표현의 방식과 유형을 분석한다. 본 연구자는 혼합매체 판화를 여성의 신체를 표현하는 수단으로 사용한다. 연구자의 작품은 여성의 신체를 흑백 영화의 한 장면처럼 표현함으로써 여성 신체의 서사성을 탐색하고, 자연이 만들어 낸 여성 신체의 곡선과 볼륨을 직관적으로 표현하여 탐미성을 추구한다. 또한, 신체의 파편화를 통해 여성 의식의 고유한 가치를 전달하고자 한다.
