Abstract
The study comprehensively identified and analyzed the market share index, trade index, and import and export countries during the period from 2010 to 2019 to determine whether Korean and French cosmetics are competitive in the Chinese market.In order to understand the competitiveness of Chinese markets, it analyzed the data of HS Code item classification (2 units), 4 units (4 units), and 6 units (6 units) in 6 major subclassification items.
According to an analysis of the market share (MS) of Korean and French cosmetics, Korea accounted for seven out of 10 items and France accounted for three items.Korea 3304.20 Eye Makeup Products (Ishado, etc.) (3%-16%), 3304.30 (Hair Lacquer) (4%-23%), 3304.99 people (Basic Makeup, Makeup, Children's Supplies, Other) (19%-45%),
3305.10 (hair products), 3305.20 (permanent wave or straightening products), 3305.30 (hair lacquer 0.01% to 4.34%), 3305.90 (hair, cream, other products) (10.69% to 37.04%), France (10.69% to 37.04%).France has a higher market share in China than South Korea, the other three target items. In fact, Korea has three items with a market share of more than 10 percent in China, while France has only one item.Overall, according to the market share analysis, Korean cosmetics account for 42 to 50% of the Chinese market, and China accounts for 42 to 50% of the total market share of cosmetics imported from both Korea and France.
According to an analysis of Korean and French cosmetics, Korea has 3304.91 (compressed or not), baby powder, 3304.99 other items (basic cosmetics, makeup, children's goods, etc.) and 3305.10 (other items).In the case of 3305.20 and 3305.30, Korea is inferior in comparison and imports, while China has a comparative advantage. In terms of trade, China represents a surplus and Korea represents a deficit. In France, on the other hand, there are 3303.00 (Perfume and Cosmetics) and 3304.99 (Basic Cosmetics, Makeup, Children's Supplies, Other) 3305.90 (Hair, Hair Cream, Other).Three items were recorded as comparative and specialized export items to China.On the other hand, France is inferior to 3304.30 and 3305.20, while China has a comparative advantage in imports. In comparison, Korea has 3304.91 cases (including white powder, baby powder), 3304.99 other cases (base makeup, children's goods, etc.), 3305.10 other cases (shampoo), and 3305.90 others (headers, Chinese products, etc.).In France, 3303.00 (Perfume and Cosmetics), 304.99 (Basic Cosmetics, Makeup, Children's Supplies, Other) and 3305.90 (Hair Dollars, Hair Cream, and Other) dominate the Chinese market, the survey showed.Among them, 3304.99 (basic cosmetics, makeup, children's products, etc.) and 3305.90 (headless, hair cream, etc.) are close to 1 according to the trade index definition.
