Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of word- recording on learning vocabulary, reading and listening of English. 24 6th graders participated in the experiment, divided into two experimental VS. control groups to answer the following questions;
First, How many repetitions are required to memorize a new word with word-recording?
Second, does word-recording affect reading comprehension?
Third, does word-recording affect listening comprehension?
The experiment was conducted for 16 weeks, whose results showed:
1) Word-recording is effective in improving vocabulary learning, pronunciation, listening, and reading comprehension even in a relatively short period.
2) Though students appreciated the significance vocabulary in English learning, they do not want to spend time only for it because of boredom.
This suggests that word recording has a positive effect on expanding vocabulary efficiently compared to other old-fashioned methods. Also, word-recording was found to be one of useful tools for self-directed English learning. However, this study is restricted to a small number of students in a specific area, which means that the results can vary and that a follow-up study is necessary.
