영어동화를 활용한 초등영어수업에서 학습자의 흥미도, 자신감, 동기에 관한 연구

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine EFL elementary school students' interest, self-confidence and motivation in a story-based classroom. The subjects consisted of 21 students who are taking English class at a private institute in Gwangju. English instruction using fairy tales had been conducted over 8 weeks from the 1st week of July, 2013 through the 4th week of August, 2013. The survey were conducted after the story-based class. The results showed that the class using fairy tales had positive effect on interest and motivation. Advanced students had more confidence, motivation and interest than lower leveled students. But most students had less self-confidence in speaking English. Implications based on the study results were suggested. First, the gradual approach using easy story is needed for the lower graders. Second, teachers should consider the level of the students when they select the appropriate stories and activities. Futhermore, the development of various programs and the coperation of the teachers of English classes are necessary.
