Abstract
In the 15th century, novels were formed to divide and to become very popular. Before the 15th century, novels were thought to be records of idle talk and to be of no value compared with Confucian classics since the era of pre-Chin and to inherit the concept in Korea as well. In the 15th century, Kim Si-seup wrote 'Keummosinhwa' to publish the Buddhist Hangul novel for the first time and to specialize folk story and to make it popular. At that time, novels made appearance for the first time to be very much important in the Korean novel history. In the paper, novels made appearance in the 15th century after dark age of novel history because novelists wrote and had point of view of novels. Not only the ones who wrote novels in the 15th century but also view of novels was not researched enough because of theory of denial of novels that was commonly adopted in the era of former half of Chosun Dynasty: The theory should make change to take actions against affirmative situation. In accordance with such a condition, the author examined not only the ones who wrote novels in the 15th century but also their point of view of novels based on literature of novels at that time.
The ones who wrote novels in the 15th century were classified into three groups, in other words, kings, scholars and generals, and men of noble character, etc. The kings liked to read novels as readers, and the scholars and generals read and wrote novels, and men of noble character had position of readers as well as writers. In the 15th century, point of view of novels was based on theory of denial of novels in accordance with concept of novels at that time to defend novels passively from time to time.
The three groups had point of view as follow:
The kings defended novels passively from point of view of teaching, self-production and political means, etc. Considering political situation at that time, however, novels were used not for the genre but for political means. The scholars and generals had not only Kiyangron (being impatient to write) from point of view of writing but also good management, self-production, erudition and attention, etc from point of view of reading, so that they defended novels passively. And, the kings had ideas of political means on novels that was found in 'Yuyangjapjo' and 'Pilwonjapki' of both Hunkupa and Sarimpa of the scholars and generals. The materials were used to attack and criticize the other party by using novels depending upon political situation when both Hunkupa and Sarimpa fought at politics each other not to criticize novels as a genre of the literature. The men of noble character had point of view of novels: For instance, Kim Si-seup thought of novel values positively by his writings from point of view of teaching as well as psychological purification.
